Choosing a Major?

Posted at: 2014-12-08
If you want to help your dad, you should definitely major is something in the school of business that give you diversity with knowledge in management, finance, HR, accounting, etc. A college recruiter will be able to point you into a major that touches there topics. However, if this is not your true interest in life, I would make sure to MINOR in something that YOU love so that you could possibly run a company with those interests in the future. Be sure to supplement your minor with volunteer opportunities and internships in the field so that you will have experience in it as well when/if you move on. Good luck!

oh man i would highly advice to NOT go to college dude think about what your doing and wrap your head around it!.STUDENT LOANS for no good reason at all you obviously want to go in buisness dude so be SMART college is not for you. What will happen is your going to go to college while working for the company and then when you graduate be stuck with like 100,000k in student loans for WHAT! to learn about buisness! haha nooo your going to bury yourself in a economy that burys dimwits like you who believe college is for them and your going to bury your dad as hes probably getting older and needs you to work more hours and pay off the buisness not uncle same.I myself was begged to go to college and in the end after alot of years regretting it i actually found my passion something that didnt require college and now im loan free and not in debt when all my freinds and family is.I actually worked for my familys company as head director in marketing and it really exceeded my skills in life to learn about buisness now im on my way to work in a career field that is flourishing and i couldnt be happier!.I just heard that its going to take 350k to raise a child in this generation we aint got time for loans dude THINK!

Im young like you and i can tell you its all up to you college is for major expectations and people who want to go into huge careers the best knoledge you will learn is from yourself college aint going to teach you specially if its business.i learned so much working for a buisness then creating one now im going to own my own firm someday!I say work for your dad full time and soon you will exceed what you want to do trust me go learn from your dad and his skills and learn about his customer service and infrstructure

UPDATE: BS valerie your just like the college kids tell me what career you have whats your major?I didnt go into college and as a matter of fact im going into the fields your talking aboutim going into finance and i did managment for my familys company i was head director and i can tell you im bread and butter now because of what i learned and a college could never do.My brother who went to college is actually in debt and now runs a company all over texas that didnt even require a damn degree. In fact most people i know dont have a career in there degree field because the economy is atrocious and no one is hiring.

So this is a specific situation that has nothing to do with my interests. Well, I have no interests, I just enjoy logic and math.

Here is a long backstory to why I'm asking what major to choose:

When I was little, my dad got involved in a job with satellite television for a Mexican company called Sky that brought Mexican television channels to the U.S.

He got A LOT of customers due to his amazing customer service. He always took the time to make the job be done perfect and flawless because he said good service meant he'd get referred which meant get more customers. He was right, he is probably number one in the Bay Area for this service. This job led him to try out other satellite companies such as Dish Network. He decided to get licensed as an authorized dealer for Dish Network and now makes a very comfortable living doing something he loves (climbing up on peoples roofs, installing satellite dishes and selling more products on the side). My dad is starting a small dealership business and I want to help. I want to go to college and earn a degree that will give me the knowledge to help my dad expand the business, and run it financially. Unfortunately, he is uneducated when it comes to schooling. I am the first in the family to be studying in college and I have no idea what types of degrees will be beneficial for my idea. Can anybody help me?
