If you can find something people would want to have (service or product) but there is no such business, you will have higher chances that your business will be successful.
On the other hand, if you are doing something a lot of other people do, you know there is a market - but you won't make a lot of money out of it.
Look around you and watch people. Maybe you will find something they would find helpful and would pay for. This would be your business idea.
i strongly recommend you to sell american made stuff abroad/ during my trip to usa i eat, smoke, drink so many good things people in others part of the world don't have. american donuts, smoothies drink, cheesteaks, mozarrela sticks, newport cigarettes, american-style restaurants. coffee stations in every shop, boars head meat and cheeses ( delicious ). just introduce those products to europe, russia - you can be very profitable in short time. also hotel for hours in idea i saw in states, and we're still don't saw such places right here in eastern europe.
