Is someone trying to scam me on eBay?!?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I sold a pair of designer jeans on eBay...brand new with tags and everything. Took detailed photos of the item and everything. Listed on the description and the item title what exact kind of jeans I was selling so the person buying them could look them up if they wanted to.

After the jeans shipped and the buyer received them, I get this message:

"Hi, I receipt wrong item. sent me write item I order as like as pickture. and sent me the return lebel please. thanks."

I'm like, WTF...that as the only item I shipped in a while and it was literally impossible for me to send the wrong item. I ask him to send me a picture of the item he received.

He responds:

"give me ur cell phone number."

How do I proceed with this? The guy is claiming that he got the wrong item, so I'm assuming he will want to receive whatever he returned, but whatever he will return will NOT be what I sent him, and I will be screwed. He is apparently a manager at a Quizno's a few miles South of my house (researched his name on tracking label). So if he attempts to do some kind of scam, at least I know he is not far.

Consult with ebay directly. Pretty much this guy can't go back on his agreement without a valid reason or evidences that the item was wrong. Also most ebay seller require customers to pay for return shipping if they want to return the item they bought.

This person probably just changed his mind about the jean or the jean don't fit him and he missed measure his own pants size. This happen a lot with people buying clothes online. Pretty much if you didn't do anything wrong you don't have to worry about it and consult with ebay directly. If you used Paypal I know Paypal have a hotline to call as well.

Tell him to send the item back and you will give him a refund. Ask him again for a photo of the item. Buyers and sellers who have ongoing transactions have access to each other's phone numbers through Advanced Search and contact member but I wouldnt mention that. As Roddy says, tell him to email a photo. If he opens a case, he will have to prove he got the wrong item. If he doesnt open a case, I wouldnt do anything else beyond telling him to ship item back. I had a buyer who refused to ship back and refused to send a photo. So I did nothing further. Ebay has all kinds of people.

Do not deal with him. Contact Ebay customer service and say you are being scammed. You NEVER give your phone number to anyone. Always do it in writing and ONLY through Ebay's website. Otherwise he will deny anything you talked about over the phone or personal email

Contact Ebay ASAP

Do NOT give out your fone number, you need an e-mail trail for EVERYING. Best to offer to refund if the jeans are returned.

eBay's message system will allow them to attach a photo.

Welcome to Ebay.... This kind of thing is the chance you take if you buy OR sell there.
