A legitimate company will have a phone number listed with directory assistance and should have loads of hits when you do a google search.
There is a registered company by that name in San Francisco which is a custom computer programming company http://www.insideview.com/directory/back...
so I can't imagine they would hire anyone without an interview and verifying you have a Masters or PhD in computer engineering or programming
If you went to their office or their recruiter's office for an interview then you'd know they were legit
You can never be too careful - most job scams use the names of legitimate companies to run their scams. But they won't ever agree to meet you or invite you to their office
Want to see if it's legit or not. Say that you are in SF next week visiting your parents for Thanksgiving so you'll stop by the office on Wednesday to meet the team and learn more about the job. If they have excuses or don't agree, then you know you are not dealing with the real company as a real employer would always want to meet you
I have the same question. I was approached as well. The red flags are that they want to send you a check, which you deposit and keep $100 as a signing bonus. Then you are supposed to send a money order to their supplier who will ship you the equipment necessary to perform the job. I was also asked what bank I use during the interview process. The fact that they prefer to communicate via IM, FedEx and UPS is also a red flag. I hate to be skeptical of a start-up with an interesting business model but I just am. Too many red flags. If they are legitimate, they've got to do a better job of not coming off as shady.
I work for BackOps, and unfortunately, I can tell you that this is definitely a scam. We have been aware of these guys for a few weeks now, and have already shut them down a few times, but it's definitely a game of whack-a-mole. Apologies for the confusion.
I just received a job offer as well and I'm a little skeptical.
This has recently happened to me as well. A number of red flags pop up as they do not give you any contact information or details about the company. They also send you employment documents that do not have official logos or letterheads. Total scam and I hate that I fell for it.
I have received the same offer as well. Please let me know anything you find out. I'm curious how they were able to access my resume at all.
Hi Patti, I am curious if you found any more information.
I recently received a job offer from BackOps, Inc. and I am not finding a lot of information on the internet. I'm not sure if this is a legitimate job offer, or if this is someone else scamming on people looking for jobs.
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.
