Is this an eBay scam?

So I sold an item and now today, I was gonna ship it but the guy messages me and says that he accidentally put the wrong address in his account. He told me yo ship it somewhere else. What should I do?

You never ship anything to anywhere but the address on file as you are not protected if you ship elsewhere. Scammers do this. They have you ship to another address, then they file a dispute with Ebay claiming their account was hacked and someone bought an item from their account. Ebay will contact you asking for signed proof of delivery to the buyer's verified address. You won't have this and Ebay refunds the buyer and they keep your item. This is a very common scam

If you read the Seller Protection you are only protected by Ebay and Paypal if you ship to the Paypal verified address. Scammers know this but hope you don't

Certainly is.

Explin that it either gets shipped to the address on the payment, and he arranges to collect it from there, or you refund and he pays again (as a "pay for goods" in Paypal), using your email address from the initial payment.

If you can't prove delivery to the address given on the first paypal payment you get screwed.

tell him you can only ship it to his registered Paypal address - those are ebay's rules - don;t ship it until he pays

Did he pay you for it? If he already paid you what does it matter what address he wants it sent to? He may have moved and didn't update his eBay account as no one remembers to do that until it's too late.

shwn's right, if he's paid you, who cares where he wants it sent? If you're uncomfortable, I would just make sure to get a tracking number for delivery and take some photos of the object lying in the box before you seal and ship it so its harder to claim damage or wrong item was shipped.
