Do I need a accountant?

I'm going to school to get associates degree in accounting .

Say I have 50 million dollars would I be able to manage it on my own .

Or would a cpa be better qualified to manage such a large sum of money .

People who have $50M hire a management firm to handle their investments because they are usually busy with other work, even if they are capable of handling it themselves.

Hopefully you will go beyond the Associates degree, which will teach you how to be a bookkeeper. Aim for a bachelors in accounting and CPA, and someday you may have your $50M.

I doubt a basic accounting degree more for doing the books in a small business wold really equip you to manage a large investment fund, then again you would never have Millions working as an account.

You are looking at something more like an Investment Management degree. This page:

Shows other Bachelor degrees that also could qualify you.

You do not need to manage $50m. Just park it in government securities, and live off the interest (plus some declining balance, if you really wanted to splurge).

Yes, people can manage money on their own. The only reason for the CPA is for tax advice. {But my father figured out it was cheaper to pay the taxes than pay for the advice on his under $1m holdings and income.}

why would you have $50million and where would it come from?
