Unlike Wal-Mart which sales all sorts of things can can upkeep a little more since they bring in more money.
Super low profit margins, with a relatively high cost of doing business in the form of rent and overstock. As such, dollar stores are run on a shoe string budget, and are usually understaffed. So simply put, the amount of money it would cost to hire someone to keep the store tidy wouldn't pay for the increase in sales they would achieve for doing so.
If you are shopping at the dollar store, you aren't leaving because it is too dirty... because you are already at the cheapest place in town.
That's quite a generlization to make based on one experience at one dollar store.
The ones in my area are clean and organized, and I've never sensed anyone wanting to kill me there.
It depends on the store and area.
I was living in one of the wealthiest counties in America, they had dollar stores there. I now live in one of the poorest areas, we have dollar stores here. Both the same greater metro area.
Some of those in the high class area were trashy because the upper class kids did not care if they had a job. the lower class kids WANTED a job and cared.
I like the dollar tree, you can get so much stuff there. $20 will get you all of your toiletries and cleaning supplies for 2 weeks. Target hires people just for making their shelves neat (zoners) (I know I work there) but if you look at the price difference you will see why the less expensive stores charge less money. the customer pays a lot less if the store pays less in labor costs. Dollar tree and Aldi's have saved my rear end at times of low finance.
"Also, most of the other shoppers seemed like they wanted to kill me"
No, they didn't. Your statement says more about your own prejudices than it says about the other shoppers. Dollar stores keep prices down in part by keeping their overhead down. That includes keeping their number of employees to a minimum which can adversely affect how well the store is maintained.
They don't have to be fancy if their merchandise only costs $1 per item. The 99 cents store chain isn't fancy either.
They operate at the same profit margin as any other. They are just more conservative in pay and talent. There is little if any chance to advance. Employees know that.
the dollar stores in my area are immaculate.
Because they sell cheap stuff.
I was at the dollar store the other day with my mom to get some cheap food containers and I just noticed how dirty and unorganized the place seemed. Also, most of the other shoppers seemed like they wanted to kill me. And then the employees seem like they don't wanna be there. I've worked at grocery stores before and have obviously been to normal ones and they're so much better. In fact, the dollar stores by me make Walmart seem really nice and warming.
What do you expect for a Dollar???
Most are not. Maybe you just live in a trashy neighborhood. Was it you trashing the place up?
Perhaps Neiman Marcus would be more to your taste.
Because they mainly attract conservatives
Because their customer base is composed of mainly trash.
low class
You get what you pay for.
