Can I start one without a college-degree? Is it really too difficult?

You can do any of these things freelance without a degree if people believe you have the skills. Not having a degree makes that sell job a bit harder, and getting a job, degrees tend to be used as a gatekeeping function by HR in larger companies particularly. They want to see you have some dedication to task and worldly knowledge, that you don't necessarily have fresh out of high school.
