Possible Ebay scam?

Posted at: 2014-12-08
Common scam.

1. He calls the video game system "ur item." Scammers send out 100s of emails a day looking for a sucker, so they don't want to waste time customizing the emails.

2. He asked for pictures and your email address. A legitimate buyer would BID, WIN and pay through the links. He plans to send you a FAKE email purportedly from Paypal saying he's sent the money, but it can't be released until you send proof of shipment. Paypal is not an escrow service.

3. Wants text so you won't hear his accent.

4. While it's not guaranteed, he'll probably ask you to ship to Africa or Asia.

Report him as a fake.

The buyer is not asking to complete transaction outside of Ebay. He is asking for an invoice so he can pay you. He may not know your Paypal address is on the Order Details anyway. He is telling you how to reach him. He may want more pictures but if he has already purchased the item, whats the point? Make sure he pays with Paypal or electronic processor. Does he have any feedback next to his name? Unfortunately you cannot control who bids or buys from you. You can check some preferences like buyers with negative feedback or those who have a history of non-payment can be blocked but you cannot do much more than that. I dont see anything wrong with this sale. Send an invoice and see if he pays. If his payment has not cleared by 4 days, you should cancel the transaction or report Unpaid Item. This Ebay user sounds like he does not speak English but that doesnt mean he is crooked.

SCAM

You NEVER give your Paypal address to anyone on Ebay for any reason. He pays through Ebay's checkout page or no deal. He's trying to get you to do an offsite transaction so you have NO protection from Ebay and Paypal and will result in your Ebay account being closed

Report this as a fraudulent buyer to Ebay and DO NOT respond to him. NEVER respond to anyone who asks for your Paypal details on Ebay - they are all scammers as they never need this information

Yes big scam. I would block, ignore, and let the Unpaid Item Assistant run automatically after 2 days. This person isn't going to pay.

I'd cancel and resend just for the sake of being safe.

Hi, I just sold an expensive video game system on ebay and received an email from the buyer:

"Dear **********,

Hello,

My name is from eBay, I want to inform you that I won ur item on eBay site and i

will like you to send me some of the pictures of this item together with your paypal email

address so as to remit payment immediately. If you have any question please feel free to

contact me through eBay or call or text me with this number because am always busy for calls

text and i will reply as soon as possible ((***) ***-****) if necessary.

Thank you."

I had uploaded a good picture of the system, which was a brand new sealed box.

Ebay itself states this:

"Do not respond to the sender if this message requests that you complete the transaction outside of eBay. This type of offer is against eBay policy, may be fraudulent, and is not covered by buyer protection programs."

Does this sound like a scam to anyone? What are your thoughts? Should I cancel and relist the item? Thanks!!
