Dealing with parents regarding college funding?

:-( Sorry she sounds like a bit of a psycho. It doesn't sound like you can necessarily count on her because she's saying she'll take it away for all kinds of reasons. :-( And if you will be "borrowing" not just getting it giving it to you with no insistence you pay it back then you'd be better off borrowing from the government without all this nonsense.

Remember the golden rule....she who has the gold, makes the rules.

if in USA , u can work and attend college, legally.

do visit BLS.gov/OOH for real info on careers/jobs

not college hype, myths, scams lies.

My parent has a tendency to hold the money over my head. I appreciate the backing, and it is the only thing that makes this possible, but sometimes it gets blackmail-esque. She wants me to do things, such as come home to our small town in the summer to do house work instead of getting an internship, that I think would sort of delay my future. She also demands small things, like getting my hair cut a certain way or choosing dorm mates, as she uses taking away her help as a way to make me say yes to everything. I am hoping to have some independence, and truly feel that having her have strings constantly attached to me would be worse than simply starting my life/education without any help from her. I actually chose that a few months ago, when I said no to my dream school because all its positives were somewhat lessened by the things my financial support had me doing (such as not having access to internships and whatever else may come). I searched and searched for a cheaper option, and have received an lifechanging oppurtunity, but it still requires some funding.

At first she was understanding as to why I said no to the other schools, but now she has started to say, "I'm paying for it so I get to choose," regarding aspects of my education. Even with things like forgetting to take out the trash, she says she reconsiders funding me. It is such a great opportunity I have, but I don't know if it would be worth having to borrow money from my parent.

Suggestions?
