yes. a college degree in business management, even an associates degree from your local community college will be good. otherwise classes like accounting or business law can be helpful. you are still in HS? good pre-planning. is there any way for you to take on extra classes this year as college placement or credit classes, especially in your core classes like math and English? get it out of the way cheap now rather than pay for those classes in college.
next, never use your own money for setting up a business. go to your favorite pet store, pet food manufacturer, animal hospital or pet rescue organization and try to get them to either buy in or invest heavily in your idea. if the property is big enough they might be able to set up displays and sales at your location to help defray your costs. the number of employees and core costs vary greatly to your level of involvement (gonna be there every single day, all day long?) and your regional economy. things cost more in NYC than they to in KC. insurance is also very important when people trust you with their babies. make sure every employee is bonded for at least $5000 in case something goes wrong, and you are not going to make a lot of money, at least not right away. that is true for ANY business. be prepared to run at a loss for at least two whole years.
owning the property you are using is preferable to renting because your landlord might suddenly stop liking the idea of dogs all over his land or the neighbors might bend his ear about the barking, smell, etc. the only advantage to renting is you are not stuck with this forever. check with the local government as well, stay within their business zoning guidelines, and if its a major metro area, there may be free or low cost seminars on how to set up a small business. you may even find funding through those seminars, some you don't have to pay back, especially if you fit the qualifiers like being female, low income and such.
good luck! the pet care industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. grab summa dat $!
Ok first off to say i have had this idea in my head for months. At the time i am 17 going into my last year of high school.
I have a few questions for owners/managers
.
If i would start a doggie daycare it would not just be a daycare for dogs, it would also be a kennel, have groomers, animal behaviorist, and a vets office.
Is there any collar degree that would help me?
How much would the start up cost be?
How long will it take until I get costumers?
How much would i make a year?
What Kind of employees should i look for?
And how many should i have?
What will the hours be?
What kind of ensurence would i have to have?
What is the most time i would get costumers?
And In the part of which the dogs would play i would have 2 half acres of turf. There would be sections that would be cut into 1/2 acres. In these 1/2 acres of doggie heaven i would have multiple toys and obstacles. The 1/2 acres would be separated into sections for larger dogs, small dogs, and there behavior.
There is so much more detail i want to add but not enough space. So in all could you answer my questions and tell me if you think this works.
I appreciate your time of answering and reading my questions.
THANKS, Mike
