what is a pre nuptial agreement.?

My parents were having a fight and I am sure I overheard this word.

What does it mean.

Is it bad?

As others stated, it's a legal agreement, signed before a couple gets married, that determines financial settlement in the event of a divorce.

It's not bad, pe se. Actually, highly recommended when one person has a lot of assets or money and especially if they have children from a previous marriage. It will protect the assets for the children in the event of a divorce.

That's a marriage contract, spelling out the terms of the possible dissolution of the marriage (divorce) later.

Commonly used when someone marries another who is much more wealthy, a prenup can prevent 1/2 of the weatthbeing taken as community property.

A prenup can be seen as an anti-cold-digger contract,

A prenuptual agreement addresses how property will be divided in the event of a divorce. It's a legal, signed document.

"Pre" means before. "Nuptial" means wedding.

A prenuptial agreement ("prenup") is a contract that two people sign BEFORE getting married that determines the division of property if a divorce occurs.
