So something with... Communications, public relations, etc etc...
What's a good major (undergrad) for that? NOT starting my own business.
Thanks.
Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Psychology, Human Resources, Marketing. These are the majors that have the broadest implications for the business world.
(Partly, it depends upon what type of "manager" or executive you want to be. Do you see yourself as a CEO, a CFO, or the VP of Sales & Marketing? Then pick a related major. If you don't know, pick one of the items listed above.)
Communications and Public Relations are seen as a bit light on both math and critical thinking, for someone who wants to be a business executive someday. They would be perfect if you want to be VP of Human Resources or Director of Communications.
But of course there's not a direct correlation between major and job, so it can still work.
I would actually concentrate on accounting, with a minor in finance or management. Then you'll be in a position to get your MBA and maybe your CPA license. This puts you in a good position because you end up with a marketable trade, accounting, and an MBA. As an accountant, you'll be able to find a job almost anywhere, making it easier to change companies to climb the ladder.
Finance, Accounting, Marketing are all good choices
It's only good if you are starting your own business.
Risk management if available.
If you like technical material and lots of numbers, do finance or accounting.
If you like conceptual with little bit of math, do marketing.
