Is this income?

I am a single father of 2 and I don't make enough money to make ends meet. My family helps pay my rent and bills every month, around 600 worth. Would this money be considered income or a gift?

Well it's not earned income. If you were receiving Section IIIV support THEY count it as income in figuring your share of the rent. The amount is so low it fits easily into gift taxes exemption. No need to report it to the IRS

Gifts can be given for up to 13K (somewhere around there) a year, so I would just consider that a gift, not income.

You need to scale back living area or expenses if you cant make ends meet.

Probably. But very few people would actually claim something like that on their taxes. Since the rent and bills they pay for you isn't tax deductible, the IRS isn't likely to care.

Gift. Because it's such a small amount, I think you can get away with not declaring it.

gift - not taxable
