10k in half a year?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I am a teen and i am saving up for my first car. I work a part time job (making 7.25$ minimum wage) and i usually work 3-4 days (4 hour shifts) during the summer (1 month left) and when school starts probably about 2 shifts per week with 4 hour shifts. My birthday is in january and i would like to have saved 10k by then, but im not sure if my salary allows that. Any ideas if i can do this/ suggestions? Thanks

Unfortunately, you can't.

Based solely on the information you listed, today is July 14, and your birthday is in January. Lets say you are aiming for January 1. That means there are about 25 weeks left. If you work 4 days for 4 hours each a week for 1 month, then work 2 days at 4 hours each per week after that, you will have worked a total of

(4days x 4 hours x 4 weeks) + (2 days x 4 hours x 21 weeks)

64 hours + 168 hours = 232 hours when january comes around.

$7.25 hourly minimum wage x 232 hours = $1682 before taxes.

I couldn't do that, and I'm an adult with a good salary.

You might save enough for a down payment, but nothing like what you're saying.

who are you working for u have to be over 18 to make 5000 dollars a year so you cant sorry

$

... and that is why you take math classes in high school
