am I being victim of a scam?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
hi people, i am very worried about some calls i ended up trusting, They called me saying that i was selected to receive a grant from the IRS. The amount? 15340.87

and because I became unemployed I began following their instructions. They requested me to pay 375 dollars by a money gram order. I did it because the adress where is send the money is called "Taxes USA". they told me i was going to get the money 15-20 minutes just after i made the payment. But now they are telling me that i was aproved and i had to make a 499 dollars payment before they can send the grant to my account, again by a money gram order.

I also request information about them and they say are calling from the NIS(national institutes of health).

The IRS does not provide grants.

Plus, you will never receive a "grant" that you did not apply for.

Plus, you never have to send money to receive a gift/grant/whatever.

Plus, the government does not ask for "Moneygrams"--scam artists do.

Plus, the government does not have a "Taxes USA" address.

By the way, the National Institutes of Health are the NIH, not the NIS.

SCAM! Drop further contact. I'm sorry that you've already lost some money. Contact your local police--they will confirm what I've told you. Any further contact with these thieves to try to get back your money will only get you in deeper.

There's been a fair amount of publicity about scams like this, how is it you have missed such warnings?

Are you just very young and naive, or perhaps it's an issue of language difficulties, or maybe you pay no attention to these things because you would hardly ever watch a local news show?

What do you think should be done to alert people such as yourself so they won't fall prey to such cons?

You've been scammed. And if you send more money, there will be another fee, and another one, and another one.

Move on. The money is gone. Moneygram will not refund it after it has been picked up and it has been picked up because that is why they are trying to get even more money from you. Don't be a fool and lose more money. Accept the loss and learn from it.

100% SCAM

1 - the IRS NEVER calls people

2 - the IRS NEVER gives grants

3 - It's illegal to ask you to pay to receive ANY type of grant

Call your local FBI Field Office to report this as it's a felony to impersonate a government official. You got scammed and need to report it to get these scammers arrested

No.

It is a SCAM.

There is no money and they are only after yours.

Do not send any more money. The $375 is gone and you will not get it back. Chalk it up to experience.

yes scam

Of course those are scams

irs uses mail not phone calls

irs will ask you to pay by check

scam - run as fast as you can - and report the scam to police

It is a scam, do not send them any money.

You got scammed. DON'T SEND THEM ANY MORE MONEY. The IRS NEVER calls people. They always send their information via the US postal service.
