What happens to scammers on eBay?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I bought something on eBay but it didn't come so when I went to open a claim the sellers id disappeared saying that the seller does not exist anymore. I guess he deleted his account.

Anyway, I got my money back from eBay but I was wondering if eBay will do anything to penalize the seller? If he deleted his account I'm guessing that he got my money and disappeared so he wouldn't have to pay it back to eBay. Will eBay track him or something to make him pay it back?

The seller is long gone and disappeared before you filed a claim. They have no way to penalize him. All of his info was bogus. They also aren't going to track him and spend tens of thousands of dollars to investigate something that was probably a very small loss of less than a few thousand bucks.

Ebay does not let the seller open another account using the same registration info and IP address. Dont buy from a seller with low feedback, preferably 100% positive rating. Ebay might send his account to collections.

Ryan M has a verry good answer but i think you can rate as a bad seller so the seller will eventually get banned on his current account as you see gold sellers are sellers who sell good legit items and thats why i only really go for them!, all though you might see a good deal it might not allways be true. make sure you leave feedback and tell the full story and click "contact seller"

If you got your money back from Ebay why worry. Scammers exist & Ebay make so much in fees they can stand a few refunds in situation such as this.
