Shipping USPS?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
If I ship a baseball card using a 4x8 bubble mailer, the smallest bubble mailer what would it be considered by USPS through Ebay? A letter, a large envelope or a package/thick envelope?

Contrary to what the first person said, a bubble mailer is not just a big letter. It exceeds the allowable thickness for letters or envelopes and cannot be machine-sorted on equipment designed for letters and flats. It is a small parcel, and rates for First Class small parcels apply. The minimum rate, without any extras like tracking or insurance, is $2.32 for up to 3 ounces.

Large envelope. We know it is not a letter, and by package/thick envelope they mean like a box, or a cardboard package. 4x8 bubble mailer is just a big letter made out of plastic and bubbles instead of paper.

When you take a wrapped, sealed, and addressed parcel to the Post Office, the United States Postal Service (USPS) bases pricing of mail rates on a combination of size, weight, shape, destination, item valuation, and class of service selected. Be sure to include the weight of the packing material with the weight of the item being mailed to determine the postage of the parcel. The thickness of the padded envelope will exceed the maximum 1/4 inch allowed for First-Class Mail letter envelopes, so it is handled as a large envelope.

Below are some examples of the postage costs to send First-Class Mail padded envelopes.

Large envelope. The cost standard mail, we used to call it 1st class would be about $1.95 or slightly less within the United States.

Just take it in to the PO when you are ready to mail it and they will help you. I believe that it is considered a large envelope.
