Does anyone know how long the Walmart managers have to approve or deny a time off request once it has been submitted?

I requested a Friday, Saturday and Sunday off more then 6 weeks in advance. I checked the status every week and it stayed in pending mood the whole time. Well I booked my hotel and bought my tickets for my trip. The day before the schedule came out that would include that time off request came out it was still in pending. I never thought anything of it since I have never had a problem getting a day off. Well the schedule dropped Friday and Im scheduled for the time I requested off. I called Tuesday and told my department manager the situation and to have it changed. I called back Thursday since it was not revised and was told by my department manager that our assistant manager (which does the schedule) denied it. Now I have a problem. I have called HR all day but they will not be back till later to ask advice from. Any help is appreciated.

walmart is a terrible place to work, but it really is better than most retail gigs.

Managers can make that decision in like 15 minutes.

. You did the request far enough in advance legally. What they do with it is scramble when you don't show up for work. Hopefully you made a carbon copy of it, because they may try to turf you out afterward.(it may state that in the app form.

- That is mainly because I do not remember the application form word for word as to what is said on there.

. But as much as they want to be, they are not your God. Scary thought say if you were giving birth. That is not a vacation for you but it is necessary time off, yes?

. However management is going to try to work with one less and see if they can do without you. People are handing in applications all the time.

, Which shows you how realistic managers are "if they were allowed "whips" - they would flog you at work.

. It is not your problem - it is theirs(do we hire someone else or cheap out?)

. It becomes your problem when you return from your time away to get accepted back into that workforce.

. I am also glad I am away from that place. When they treat employees like children, then that is a company I do not respect.

1) There is no legal requirement for them to respond to your request at all let alone by any specific date.

2) The employee handbook may specify what company policy is regarding this issue

3) You were foolish to schedule a vacation BEFORE the request was approved and BEFORE the schedule was out. Your problem, not theirs.

Are you allowed to switch shifts? That might be an option.
