Calculating the price of gold is a little complicated because mostly we measure things in ounces or grams, and then it has to be converted to troy ounces, and then figure out the actual value. Then gold buyers pay less than that, last I heard in the 65-85% range. I found this resource which explains the first part of the conversion pretty well here:

Look for AU currency value in http://www.xe.com or YAHOO: 1 XAU TO 1 USD... DO NOT ever send your gold over mail, rather visit a local dealer, pawn shop or jewelry store to quote their price.
It's currently going for about $1628 us dollars per oz. But that's for pure gold.
You'd need to get your stuff assessed for content to see how much is in there. Then you should be able to get something near to the going price for that, if you get an honest buyer.
Not it's value. Those commercials are designed to prey on poor people, who need money right now, and will sell even their wedding rings to get it. They should be illegal.
