This star eventually dies and the stellar mass is ejected creating a cloud of stellar dust - from which a new star forms... possibly planets might form, with moons and asteroids etc...
We just happen to live on a planet which has a breathable atmosphere and the rocks happen to contain so many elements - including elemental gold.
It's not known (just yet) if the Earth and Mars share the same makeup, if so - there should be a metal bonanza out there in our solar system.
