The failure rates of new retail businesses is pretty scary, the public doesn't always share the owners' vision.

If you had big money to invest, running some franchise restaurant is the safest way to go, they have much higher success rates but you may have to invest $80,000 to $250,000 to open one, depending on the brand and complexity. They provide the complete business plan and support.

You might check food truck regulations, that could be a way to test the market for your food ideas, the movie "Chef" which was inspired by a gourmet Korean Barbeque Taco truck business in L.A may be worth watching.

Why don't you start on a smaller scale with an online business. It seems like you are interested in animals so a blog with a pet accessory store could be good option.

My husband and I have been talking about opening a burger shop in the Smokey Mountains. I haven't had a job since I was 16 other than a freelance artist and he works at a hardware store. He and I are in our later 20s and don't want to be stuck in the same town anymore. We both agree that it's time to take a chance at something that will get us somewhere in life.

I would love to begin some real planning and learning about opening a business of our own. Any suggestions on where to start? We're ready to stop dreaming and bring it to life.
