You're just going to have to be honest.
"Bob, I appreciate the opportunity that you've given me but the job is not what I expected (give some details here). I am putting in my two weeks notice and my last day will be __________"
Don't feel bad. Companies have no problem with firing people for any or no reason and you have every right to leave a job you aren't happy with. Be careful, though, because depending on where you live a new job may not fall in your lap.
I need help! I work in a place that has less than 20 employees. I am the secretary--I handle all phone calls, walk in customers, accounts payable, receivable, payroll, etc. Everyone in the office depends on me for a lot of different things, and they tell me that I am the best secretary they have had. Problem is, I am not happy at all. This job is not what I was expecting at all. I have only worked here for 3 months, and really want to quit.
In my interview, they said that they only wanted to hire someone they knew would be here for 5 years at the least, and I told them that would be no problem. Now I feel like I have to work here for 5 years! I know my boss is going to be really mad at me, so I just don't know what to do; and it is extremely hard since this is such a small business, so it will be awkward!
Can someone give me some advice on how to go about this? I do not even know how to attempt to bring it up in a conversation? Any advice will be helpful, thanks!!
