Give him a warning, with a time constraint. Tell him he has a month to get his act together or he's out. There are plenty of willing youngsters ready to fill the vacancy.
I own and run a small construction company with 5 employees. One of them is such a slacker that the others are becoming resentful of him. I don't want to fire him, he is young, inexperienced and I am training him. He shows up to work on time every day but he has no energy, never seems to care about the work he does, and even If I tell him to run or hurry, he will walk and take his sweet-*** time. Like I said firing is not an option. How do I raise his energy level and get some initiative out of him? Any help is appreciated, his behavior is about to start costing the company any possible profits. Thank you.
