And if you KNOW how much postage the envelope requires, and if it weighs less than 13 ounces, then yes, you can just put it in a drop box. Otherwise, you must mail it over the counter at the Post Office.
(You can't let your parents know you're returning something because it's a surprise? Um. That really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.)
You will need to go to a post office, it sounds like the item you want to mail will need additional postage, so they will weigh it and tell you how much. If you just mail it and guess the postage amount it will be sent back to you. The post office will show you how to address the envelope.

where its going goes in the center of the envelope, your adress goes in the upper left corner, stamps go in the upper right. the number of stamps depends on weight, if it fits, jam it in
like what do i include? i have a large envelope and i have the item i want to return, and i have a return address. where do i put the return address and where do i put my address? can i put it through one of those little mailboxes that sit outside of a buisness? (its small enough to fit...but will it be allowed). i cant let my parents know (its a surprise). and i cannot get to a post office
