are these financial expenses possible with this job?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I am worried about my mother with her finances. She gets paid about $24/hr at about 30 hours per week. She made about 40k last year before deductions I believe.

Her monthly most common expenses are these:

-Utilities(Mobile, Phone, Internet, Power, Cable) $600

-Mortgage $700

- HOA fees $200

There are others but they arent major and i'm not sure how much they cost. She also receives child support of $675/month. I was running it through my head today and It seems expensive for that little of income. Please don't tell me its none of my business but I'm just worried a bit. Im not the best at this kind of math so if someone could help me out that would be appreciated!!

Utilities seem insanely high. what state does she live in? is heat something other than electric? Her take home pay and child support equals 2800 a month or so. seems like that should be plenty to live on. she should be building an emergency fund of 6 months worth of expenses and saving towards retirement and NOT having an expensive car payment

She has $4000 per month; 20% of it is tax free (child support)

You list $1500 in expenses each month.

You didn't include some major items - gas, car insurance, food, etc.

She might not have tons and tons to put into savings, but it doesn't look like she should have troubles paying her bills.

You're missing required health insurance, maintenance (car, plus tags, car insurance). What else is wrong in your figuring is that you're not including everything she pays out, so I'd say let her do that figuring. If she wanted to she could get a second job.

You have not listed the tax she must pay on her earned income.
