Check use not only requires a bank account but also a form of identification.
Carrying a large wad of cash can be risky. When I have to pay my property tax bill it runs about $2,000 to $3,000 each year. I'm definitely not going to be walking around the downtown area with that kind of money in my pocket!
You have proof of payment. You can post-date it, and if something goes wrong, stop / cancel payment.
