Sending a letter from US to UK?

I'm planning on sending a letter from the US to Scotland, and I'm wondering how many stamps i'll need. It's not a large package or anything, just a letter. Would 3 be enough? Thanks.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will let you send an envelope to the international destination of the United Kingdom without a customs form.

The dimensions of the envelope must not exceed a maximum length of 11-1/2 inches, maximum height of 6-1/8 inches, or maximum thickness of 1/4 inch. USPS First-Class Mail International service will send a one ounce weight envelope for $1.15. The price increases as the weight goes up. Here are some of the actual prices to send a letter envelope to United Kingdom and the number of standard Forever stamps required to cover the weight based postage rate.

mailing 1 ounce - $1.15 (takes three Forever stamps)

mailing 2 ounces - $2.13 (takes five Forever stamps)

mailing 3 ounces - $3.12 (takes seven Forever stamps)

If you can get to a local Post Office branch, they can weigh the envelope and apply the exact postage amount, saving you a little bit. You can also purchase from USPS an international rate Forever stamp, called 'Global: Sea Surface Temperatures', which is valued at $1.15 per stamp, and use it to send future letter envelopes.

A 1 ounce regular letter to Scotland is $1.15. So three 0.49 (forever) stamps is plenty. If odd shaped or heavier the price goes up. For example 2 ounces is $2.13, so you would need 5 stamps.

I really suggest you go to the post office, let them weigh the envelope, and attach the postage.

I recently sent a padded envelope that weighed almost 6 ounces from Colorado to England.

It cost almost $7.00.

One, if it is for the correct amount of money. Take to Post Office for actual price.

call the post office and ask them what the rates are for international air mail
