Is my boyfriend right about this?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I'm 18, I have no job and my parents sometimes provide me with money when I really need it. They don't pay for any of my school, I rely entirely on school loans. I've been trying to get a job but haven't been having any luck. My boyfriend is 18, and he got a job out of luck because his mom basically got it for him. His parents are paying for school for him. They told him if he didn't get a job he would get spending money. boo who, I get no spending money. He is telling me i'm lazy and I should take a weight off my parents shoulder. I don't think he understands that I am trying and even if I did get a job I wouldn't get spending money. The government would just take away some of my loan. Is he right ?

Yes. BF is right. At 18 it's time you started taking care of yourself. Expect a minimum wage job but realize it's not a career but rather a stepping stone to gain some experience for a better job. The longer you don't have a job the harder it will be to explain to future prospective employers why, since 16, you've not worked SOMEWHERE !

Time to get new "boy"friend.

Time to get library card and spend some time learning how to job hunt and interview for jobs.

Given info, u need to apply any where Doors open.

expect to get minimum wage where live.

As for "government loans" What country u live in.

Here loans are not paid until u finish college.

Here u can legally work 30 hrs week and attend local community colleges for programs leading to employment and good paying income.

during breaks u can work 40 - 60 hrs week so u can pay for education with CASH.

Go to library for real info on the process of getting education with out Decades of Debts.

Apparently your parents are on welfare which is based on household income. You can ask the assigned social worker how much you can earn before affecting the welfare payments. Good Luck

Why is this a discussion? Is it his money?

As for "government loans" You can legally work and it will not affect your student loans.

Best of luck

You are BOTH wrong.
