My husband and I are considered a working class family. Him and I both work full time at considerably decent jobs. Together, we have one child, 5 years old. Until recently, child care was never an issue because we were blessed with parents who were always able to help when needed. A couple months ago, my parents began having issues of their own and could no longer help watch our child while we worked. Since then, my in-laws have been doing it all but having to take care of our child 4 days a week is too much for one person. My husband and I make too much for any assistance but we don't make enough to pay for child care on our own. We need two incomes to be able to afford our bills so one of us staying home isn't an option. I have looked into childcare tuitions and daycare is about $50 per day or $200 per week for full time. That equals out to be almost as much as our rent each month. I know there are many families facing this same dilemma so, if anyone has any advice on how we can both continue to work full time with a young child, I would appreciate it! Why must it be so incredibly hard to work?!
Look for co ops where groups of people form daycare and rotate the responsibilities rather than paying money. Or you could get a second job to help pay off debts sooner.
You both keep your jobs (even though one of you is only working to pay daycare) and look forward to the day the child will be in school - and you will only need after school care. In the meantime, quit contributing to any retirement plans, and dip into your emergency fund if necessary.
cut back on your other expenses like the rest of us. Stop eating out, going to the movies, etc. get ride of cable tv and use free tv, cut coupons, etc. etc.
Move to California. The prisons have wi-fi now!
capitalists hate welfare but create the need for it themselves work must pay it must pay to work you are being forced off the ladder simply because work does not pay we will not survive if we can't have children
