Craiglist Cheque Scammer? HELP!?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
Hi, okay so I put an ad on Craiglist trying to sell a ticket. A supposed buyer sent me an email saying they want to buy it. They said they don't want to do paypal transfer and would rather do cheque. They also live in the US and I'm in Canada. Today, they emailed and said they're getting an old client in Canada that owed them money to send me a cheque and that they hoped they can trust me with the remaining money. I received the cheque and I was really surprised. The item was $500 and the cheque I received is $2350. I'm now pretty sure this is a scam but I have no idea what to do. Please please help.

Turn the cheque over to the police. It's stolen or counterfeit, either way it will bounce in a few weeks, ling after you've sent off the ticket

Craigslist is ONLY for face to face CASH transactions or it's always a scam. There are no exceptions

Perfect example of a 419 Scam aka 'Advanced Fee Fraud' Cheque scam

This SCAM is older than you are, go look it up ...

Tear up the check. Tell original buyer you know they are scammers and to go away.

Option 1) Tear up the check.

Option 2) Take the check to the police

Option 3) Take the check to your bank's fraud department

(I would probably just tear it up).

You are correct. This is a SCAM. The check is fake.

Guaranteed 100% SCAM!

That's a scam. They will ask you to wire back the extra money, and after you've done that, you will find out that their check was fake, and the money you wired is gone.

Inform the "buyer" that you are aware it's a scam, report them to craigslist, and tear up the check
