Can a debit card be used without a pin?

I sent on of my (untrustworthy) friends a picture of my new debit card so they have all the details. Would they be able to make a purchase with it?

Unless you also sent them a picture of the back of the card ( that is the side that has the secret 3 digit code that you need to verify the card is yours for on-line purchases) it will be very hard for them to guess your four digit pin at random and use an ATM to get your money.

YET...I would tell the bank that the card has been compromised and get another one and don't send a picture this time.

Thank you.

If they know your Zip Code and are relatively intelligent, then yes. Most card swipers give the buyer the option to choose debit or credit. If one choose credit, there is no PIN needed, just your Zip Code.

I suggest you get a new card. And take this as a lesson. Never give any "friend" trustworthy or not the information. With how fast technology is improving you put your finances at risk by just doing that.

Yes, but only over the phone and online bills/shopping, they could if you sent them the front of the card with the account numbers and expiry on it, as in this day in age less things you buy for ask for the 3 digit security code on the back,
