Can I ask my money back?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
HI, I am going to move in a new home, so I want to my mail forward to the new address, I did this before on usps website, and I want to do it again online, after filled the form and paid by my debit card, I suddenly found they charged me $39.50, and this is NOT usps website, it is call United Post Service, and there are very small letters on the top "This informational website is privately owned and is not affiliated with the government. Learn more about the official USPS address change process here."

This website look like usps but it is not, an d I know usps only charge $1 for forward mail online.

I feel I was cheated and I am so angry, can I call my bank ask my money back and do the address change on USPS official website myself?

Many thanks.

There's a term for this, "A sucker is born every minute". It is how companies make money. No, you won't get your money back, they earned it fair and square. Sorry, but be more careful next time. And realize that the Fed Gov't doesn't charge for things like that. Maybe a $1 fee for processing, that's it. If you do it with their regular forwarding card it is free. They don't charge for the Postal Exam either, or for the Postal Exam study seminar. So when you see those "Postal Jobs available in your area... send $40 for more information"... it too, is a legitimate company taking advantage of people who just don't know any better and who don't do their research. Sorry. It sux... and now this company has a lot of your personal information which they are now going to sell to other companies. Including your cc information.

You weren't cheated one bit.

1) You clicked on a paid advertising link. It says that before you even click on the link.

2) The website doesn't look anything like the USPS website.

3) It repeats itself over and over right there on the home page that this is NOT the USPS - it's a privately owned site and that there are fees.

4) The web address is mychangeaddress.com. There is no "USPS" in there anywhere.

5) Pricing information is plainly listed.

6) This company isn't doing anything illegal.

You didn't "suddenly" find that they charged you $39.95. You were charged $39.95 because you didn't bother to open your eyeballs and engage the brain. That's no one's fault but yours. I see no reason you should get your money back.

You can try, but you authorized the payment. Had this been on a credit card, you'd have a much better chance and contesting since they wouldn't have paid this place yet. Since you used a debit card, that money is already out of your account...

You can try, but it likely wont work.

You did get cheated. Unfortunately, you paid them money and done is done. Your bank will not refund a valid transaction. File this under experience and look at the website closely before hitting submit.

The very first sentence on their site tells you they will file your change of address with the USPS. You weren't cheated, you just didn't read.
