bad things about royal navy life ?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
i am thinking of joining the royal navy as a chef, i am 17 and just want to know what the bad things about being in the royal navy are, the stuff the leaflets or website doesnt tell you.

i am aware that you will be away from family and friends for like 6months at a time, but what are other things? do you see any bad things happen or i dunno i just want to know everything so i know what im getting myself into....

also if i become a chef and were away at very rough seas what would you cook the ships company because everything would just go all over the place?

might seem like silly questions but i want to know..

thanks in advance :)

You will love being in the navy. Yea there are risks, but only if WW3 kicks off most of the time you will be cooking and busy. You wont have time to worry, you will also receive standard training.

Your wages are mostly TAX free as they are outside the UK. So cars and women are a definite certainty.

If you worried about all risks in life you would never cross the road in case a car came along. So take the risk and live a fantastic life, its hard, there is no escape on that fact its HARD HARD.

But you will see the world, and cook food you would NEVER expect to cook on a ship - those men are fed FEASTS.

A chef ? To my way of thinking (just a little common sense here) one starts out in life at the bottom. Unless you're born a prodigy of some kind. That means kitchen helper. Then after years of hard work and training you may eventually become a cook. But you want to start out as a chef. Maybe they'll make you an admiral....the very first day.

EDIT

Thanks for the question. I got a nice chuckle out of it.

If you are a normal hot blooded boy you will miss not having any girls around you to sleep with and to go out with and drink with. You will be surrounded by other men and boys and you might feel very lonely after a while.

I once heard a story about a boy who joined the navy and became gay, but obviously that does not apply to all boys and especially not to you.

My Dad cooked all through WW2 in the Royal Navy. Food doesn't stop just because there are bombs flying around.. The galley is made secure so nothing moves. You would still cook in very rough seas, not everyone is sea sick.

It's a good life, you can visit lots of places in the world and you have a trade for life.

You are not just a chef you are a soldier and will be out in the front line with guns and bombs the same as any other soldier and also cooking for them, obviously you will be cooking whilst on the ship or submarine, Good Luck
