We have two small kids, 7 and 5, and just found out that the Radon level is through the roof. We are living in a member of the families house basically for free. We can't afford to go anywhere else. My wife refuses to find work and I can't afford a new place to live.

Radon is dangerous to children and adults. It sounds like you have had the home tested and the experts should have explained the danger to all. You may be able to reduce the amount of radon by keeping the windows open. Radon is a naturally occuring gas and if it can escape to the atmosphere it's not a problem. Also, check with your local health department.

At any age, high radon levels can cause lung cancer. I suggest you either pay for a radon remediation (removal) service or move out ASAP.

talk to the homeowners - it would be affectjng their health also - it's not super expensive to install a fan to vent the radon gas outside
